Like so many, I was bullied as a child for being ‘ugly’ and got the message from the media that I had to look a certain way to be ‘worth’ anything. After training as a singer, dancer, actor, I started auditioning for roles and would find out I was alternately not enough or too much.
Here is my story and a little inspiration for you:

The artistic community in Toronto often criticized me that I was not skinny enough, my voice is too big, I had too much vibrato or that I’ve had too much training. (That one still baffles me, how can you have too much training?). I even had the top casting director for musical theatre say to me ‘you have more talent that most of the people I cast but you have no sex appeal so I will never cast you.’

No matter what I did or steps I took, I felt like I was being overlooked and hated. This impression is one of the biggest reasons that I decided to cut my losses and move to Los Angeles and now New York.

Over the years I have worked on self-love and it grows and grows. But in the past, every time, I returned home to see family and friends in Toronto that feeling of being small and inadequate returns. You know that feeling – the one where you are practically invisible! And every time I come back to the U.S. after one of those trips, I have so much success happen for me and I wake up every day feeling incredibly empowered.

This show, #CindyUncorked, has been developing for the last 5 years but is the cherry on my sundae. Having my own television program has been my biggest dream since forever. Because of this dream coming true, I went back home to Toronto and to do a live taping. Since I am now in full alignment with what I am supposed to be doing with my life and because I have worked through a lot of my self-hatred to find self-love; I feel like I’m in my personal power no matter what. Very little can trigger me.

Through that stance, that experiencing of my personal power, I see myself wholly and completely. And going home – so did everyone else. I didn’t feel invisible. In fact, we sold out the tickets to my show there in THREE DAYS! And the amount of love that T.O. is showing to me? It’s phenomenal.

The message for all of us is that the more that we can love ourselves and be in alignment with what we are supposed to be doing, then the more we are able to see ourselves and the more opportunities appear and present themselves to us. People will see the real you and be inspired.

I am so honored and blessed to be doing this and to have been able to do it with and for my hometown!

And now it is your turn… SEE YOU, LOVE YOU and so will the world.
